In a world that magic captivates the hearts and imagination of many, a new concept of magic came to realization by a mother, Carmen Miller, who saw an opportunity to make this enchanting art form accessible to her autistic daughter, Angela. Angela, who is full of wonder and curiosity, found it challenging to participate in traditional magic shows due to sensory sensitivities and the overwhelming nature of such performances. Determined to include her daughter in the world of magic, Carmen and her magician husband, Phil, both embarked on a journey together to create something truly special: Adaptive Magic.
Soon, Dr. Miller shared his new approach to his mentor the world-renowned magic master, Jeff McBride who showed interest to support the new approach in magic into a project. Upon Jeff's recommendation other notable magicians who have expertise in performing magic for autistic children, such as Frank Zazanis (California) and Cody Clark (Kentucky) joined forces and launched the Adaptive Magic in Motion project.
A Mother's Vision and a Father's Talent for Magic
Carmen envisioned not only to create a new approach to magic but also to gain a deep understanding of her daughter's unique needs. She envisioned a magic show that was not only inclusive but also tailored to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for individuals with autism. Her vision was to transform the transform the traditional magic show into an interactive, sensory-friendly event that welcomes everyone, regardless of their abilities.

To bring her vision to life, Carmen meticulously designed a program with her husband, Dr. Philip Miller, a physician by profession and a passionate magician who applied theory into practice. Dr. Phil volunteered magic shows to various autistic support classes in multiple schools, fairs, and birthday parties. He carefully created and adapted each magic trick based on the audience's abilities, after carefully reviewing pre-established queries about each child.
The magic incorporated several key elements:

Adaptive Magic in Motion was well-received from the first show, with smiles and giggles from kids who had previously felt excluded from the world of magic. This innovative approach inspired other magicians to adopt similar practices, leading to a broader movement towards inclusivity in the performing arts. Magicians across the United States, including famous ones, joined the movement and showed tremendous support. Dr. Miller performed shows for the autism support classes at various schools in State College, PA, as well as fairs and events involving special needs individuals . His shows were always well received.
This pioneering effort highlighted the power of creativity and determination in breaking down barriers and fostering a sense of belonging for individuals with diverse needs.
